Yaesu GM Function

Yaesu GM Function

The Yaesu GM (Group Monitor) function is available on all of the current Yaesu digital radios. It is a useful tool to see the callsign and locations of other Yaesu radios within communication distance to you. If a radio is within distance, you can then talk or use data to send messages (and images if you have the camera microphone).

Using GM

The radios must be on the same frequency, in digital (DN) or AMS mode. Press the GM key and the GM function will be enabled. Any radios which are also in digital or GM mode will show up (assuming that they are on the same frequency and in the same TX/RX ID group as the radio you are using. Unless you have a specific reason to create RX/TX groups, leave both settings at 00). These settings are explained more fully in the radio manual or advanced manual).

What then?

If a radio on the same frequency (in DN, AMS or GM mode) is detected, a notification will appear on the screen. This will show you the callsign of the radio and its distance from you. Depending on the model of your radio, you can then press the notification to access other information such as a compass showing direction and distance to the other radio, or other data screen which allow you to send and receive messages and images.
